Nonprofit Accountant

Upside Down Crab Bucket is a wellness center on a mission to provide a sense of support and safety for Jews, their allies, and the communities around them, to stop the defamation of the Jewish people, and to secure justice and fair treatment to all. To accomplish this, we provide educational courses, health and wellness services, and networking events for professionals, students, and the public at large. We’re striving to be a literal one-stop-shop for our clients’ mental, physical, and financial wellbeing. 

Our in-house Talent Acquisition Department has an opening for a Nonprofit Accountant out of our Philadelphia location.

 

Job Requirements & Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform month-end close procedures following the firm’s month-end closing checklist.
  • Create and analyze management financial reports, including statements such as the Statement of Activities (Income Statement) and Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet).
  • Conduct investment reconciliation and prepare cash flow forecasts and year-end operating forecasts.
  • Prepare footnotes explaining variances against the budget to provide insight and clarity to stakeholders.
  • Present Board packages for client Finance/Audit/Board meetings.
  • Assist in preparing the books for year-end external audits and completing the 990-tax questionnaire for external tax accountants.
  • Ensure compliance with tax- and benefit-related regulations, collaborating with the HR team on issues such as 1099 forms and Form 5500.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures in accordance with the client’s Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Supervise team members and provide guidance and support as needed.
  • Recommend and adopt technology upgrades and new accounting tools to enhance efficiency.
  • Participate in defining project scope for new engagements and contribute to startup processes.
  • Deliver financial and management reports to the client’s Executive Director or designated contact on a monthly basis.
  • Provide thought leadership and actively participate in Client Advisory Service (CAS) meetings with the client engagement team.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in nonprofit accounting or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for nonprofits.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

The ideal candidate possesses previous experience in nonprofit accounting or a related field, demonstrating strong analytical skills, communication abilities, and attention to detail. Proficiency in accounting software and regulatory compliance knowledge are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. The ideal candidate should also show initiative, adaptability to changing priorities, and a genuine passion for nonprofit missions and making a positive impact in the community.
